Welcome to the Dean Barber Scholarship webpage!

Most of us remember that one teacher who inspired us to excellence, to go further, to dream. Dean Barber was one such teacher, and he inspired a generation of art students at Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC.

Although he passed away several years ago from cancer, his inspiration lives on, and several of his graduates are organizing a fundraising campaign to establish a scholarship in his name. The goal is to continue to reward excellence in the arts in Charlotte, and encourage young students to pursue their artistic goals beyond the High School level.

Spring 2009 Fundraiser Recap!
  Monday, 3/29/09

The Spring Fundraiser March 7th at Belle Acres was a huge success! Thanks so much to everyone who was involved, and to those who were able to come out. Some of the folks that attended included relatives of Dean Barber, who brought along some of Dean's original artwork. Special thanks to Amy Gerdes Philipp for doing much of the heavy lifting organizing the event, Bud , and the Fidgets for providing an amazing performance.

We raised over $5,000 at the event, and we got some great exposure around Charlotte. The Charlotte Observer wrote up a fantastic article on Dean Barber and the event that you can read online, (just click on the photo below). Our Fundraising total is $12,500, and we will be giving our first Scholarship this Spring! Check back and we will post images of Student work from the portfolios of potential recipients.
